One of the worst things to happen in the wrestling scene over the past year was the injury sustained by Finn Balor after winning the Universal Championship at SummerSlam in August. He’d fought so hard to get there by winning the epic fatal four-way match with Cesaro, Rusev and Kevin Owens (where he laid some of the most devastating drop kicks we’ve seen in awhile) and then pinning Roman Reigns on the same night.

Fans had decided Balor was a Superstar already, making his injury that much more of a let down. He was set to come back from SummerSlam as one of the biggest names in RAW and start his reign (pun intended) on Monday night. Instead, he’s now been rehabbing for months with his sights set on WrestleMania in April to return and try to reclaim his title.

When ESPN caught up with the Irish Superstar, he brought up the idea of being a surprise entrant to the Royal Rumble in January, way earlier than his six-month timetable had suggested. He has one condition: a healthy shoulder. If his shoulder were to somehow recover to 100% before the event, he’d participate - perhaps even win - and boy would that be a show.

He’s not ready to say that he’ll do it though, as the six-month timeline is still the official story. He did add an interesting bit at the end, saying: ‘If the day of the Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon says, ‘You got your gear with you?’ Then I’m sure I’ll be around’.
