On December 30th, 2016, Ronda Rousey made her highly anticipated return to the Octagon, going up against Amanda Nunes. The last time we watched Rousey in a fight, was when she faced her first loss back in November of 2015 to Holly Holm.

Before that, Ronda Rousey was smashing ceilings and paving the way for women in contact sports and that legacy can never be diminished. She took the last year off to focus on all of her other career ventures, but also to prepare for her return. The loss to Holm was as shocking to her as it was to viewers.

Before her fight with Holly Holm, Rousey had won 12 MMA fights in a row, six of them in the UFC. She is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion as well as the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. In March 2016, she was ranked the #2 Women’s Bantamweight fighter in the world by the UFC.

People thought it was a fluke when she lost to Holly Holm, but her fight against Nune’s seems to indicate that Rousey has just lost her edge in the ring. The match between the two women only lasted 48 seconds, and then Nunes won by technical knockout.
